Geoptic Wins Business Start-up Award

Geoptic have won a prestigious, national Institute of Physics Business Start-Up award for their work supporting Network Rail, investigating the overburden of tunnels. Cosmic rays ‘rain’ down on the Earth's surface and can be used in the same manner as X-rays in medical imaging. Geoptic's innovative technique offers new benefits of being non-invasive and completely passive, improving the safety of tunnel overburden investigations.

"The recognition of the Geoptic team's hard work by this IOP award is fantastic and sets us up well for success in future years."
Dr Chris Steer, Managing Director

Geoptic have pioneered the use of cosmic rays for imaging within the railway sector and shown below a short animated video explaining Geoptic’s technique.

The Institute of Physics (IOP) is the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland. It seeks to raise public awareness and understanding of physics, inspire people to develop their knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of physics and support the development of a diverse and inclusive physics community. As a charity, it has a mission to ensure that physics delivers on its exceptional potential to benefit society.
