Detector Physicist / Engineer

Develop and deploy novel detector systems, taking concepts from design and prototyping through laboratory validation, field deployment and operational use.

Role Specifications

Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 9am–5.30pm, with some overnight and weekend working
Location: South Warnborough, with off-site and international travel
Reporting to: Senior Engineering Manager

Key Requirements

Significant experience in detector physics, instrumentation engineering or a closely related field
Experience taking complex detector systems from concept through to deployment
Full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle
Right to work in the UK
Comfort with physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying equipment

Electronics Engineer

Support the engineering development, construction, calibration and field operation of Geoptic’s muon detection systems.

Role Specifications

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Reporting to: Senior Engineering Manager

Key Requirements

Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering, Physics or a related field
Experience designing, producing and testing RF and digital circuits
Experience with CAD, external fabrication and 3D-printing design
Experience training users and working in small scientific or engineering teams
Full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle and right to work in the UK

Technical Sales

Develop commercial opportunities by translating technically challenging customer problems into credible muon imaging, simulation and service solutions. The role follows opportunities from initial contact through technical discussions, feasibility assessment, proposal development, negotiation and handover into delivery.

Role Specifications

Contract: Permanent; full-time and part-time considered
Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week, 9am–5.30pm, with some overnight and weekend working
Location: Remote within the UK, with regular travel to customers, partners, conferences and industry events. Periodic attendance at South Warnborough, Hampshire is expected.
Reporting to: Managing Director / Head of Business Development & Technical Sales

Key Requirements

PhD in Physics, Engineering or a closely related scientific or technical discipline
Strong understanding of experimental science, engineering, scientific instrumentation or computational modelling
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong interest in developing a career in technical sales and business development; previous sales experience is desirable but not essential
Full UK driving licence, right to work in the UK and willingness to travel domestically and internationally

Computational Scientist

Deliver the scientific software, simulation and analysis behind Geoptic’s muon imaging, reconstructing density images of large structures and running Monte Carlo simulations of muon transport through rock and masonry. You will apply Bayesian reconstruction methods alongside the detector team, analysing laboratory and field data to characterise instrument performance, turning promising algorithms into dependable production code and communicating results clearly to customers.

Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week, 9am–5.30pm, with some overnight and weekend working
Location: South Warnborough, with project and survey travel as required
Reporting to: Senior Analyst

Key Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or a related field
Strong Python and scientific computing experience, including NumPy, SciPy, pandas or equivalent tools
Knowledge of C++ and associated libraries
Experience with DevOps, testing and collaborative software practices
Strong analytical, mathematical, written and verbal communication skills
